Application of laparoscopic surgery in patients with severe kyphosis

Objective

To investigate the safety and clinical effect of laparoscopic surgery in patients with severe kyphosis.

Methods

We reported three cases of severe kyphotic deformity combined with abdominal disease, which one was primary liver cancer, one was gallbladder stones, one was common bile duct stones combined with gallbladder stones.All of the three patients tried to treatment with laparoscopic surgery.

Results

The laparoscopic hepatectomy was failed and have to change to radiofrequency ablation due to abdominal adhesions and thorax deformity. The laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic biliary exploration were successful without any significant complications and was safely discharged.

Conclusions

Laparoscopic surgery is safe in simple procedure but uncertain in relative complex procedure for patients with severe kyphotic deformity, especially for the upper abdomen. Strictly selected indication, full preparation before surgery, good performance during surgery and careful nursing after surgery will reduce the complications and make sure the safety of the patients.
