Application of laparoscopic single-site surgery in the resection of retroperitoneal masses

Abstract:

Objective

To explore the application of laparoscopic single-site surgery in the resection of retroperitoneal masses using a case of Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) as an example.

Methods

A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data from a patient diagnosed with RDD who underwent laparoscopic single-site surgery resection of a retroperitoneal mass at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University in Oct. 2022.

Results

The patient underwent laparoscopic single-site surgery via the umbilicus. Following the principle of tumor-free resection, the entire pelvic retroperitoneal mass was excised without complications or significant bleeding. One year of follow-up showed no abnormal findings.

Conclusion

The use of laparoscopic single-site surgery for en bloc resection of retroperitoneal masses is safe and feasible. It ensures complete removal of the mass, effectively avoiding tumor spillage caused by tumor rupture, and achieves therapeutic goals by removing the lesion.
